Facebook has provided the below set of tips, for Facebook and Instagram, which can be a big help in expanding access to more users. This is in order to make sure the posts can be availed to over a billion internet users with a disability or other impairment while Global Accessibility Awareness Day, an event dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of digital inclusion, and ensuring that all people, of all capabilities, just passed a day ago.

The tips given below are definitely worth knowing and sharing it among your communities to help raise awareness.

  1. Use simple language and shorter sentences whenever possible. Use sentence case instead of all capital letters.
  2. Capitalize the first letter of each word in the hashtags. eg: BestFriendForever.
  3. Avoid creating emojis with text as it’s hard to read for many people.
  4. Use color combinations in such a way that texts are easily readable.
  5. Add short descriptions about photos known as ‘alt text’ which can be spoken by a reader to a blind.
  6. Use animated GIFs with flashes not more than 3 per second and run for less than 5 per second.
  7. Include a text transcript with your audio recordings.
  8. Include captions or transcripts with the videos.
